SILENT by DAMIR DOMA
“Silent is the state we are in when we are freed of thoughts, of noise or of any other distraction. It is in silence that we can clear our minds and focus on details that would otherwise be overseen. Confronted with a world that becomes more noisy every day, we can close our eyes and hear the music behind the roaring sound of a city -the enduring play of silence and sound. For it is when we are silent, that we can truly admire and embrace the essence of something. We are left in state of purity and peacefulness, open to embrace the surrounding.”
o.X.s RUBBER SOUL
A name is more than just a combination of letters; a name must be a sound that successfully evokes the essence of the person or thing it describes. Hence the name RUBBER SOUL: just two words that encapsulate the true essence a project.
Rubber is the core component out of which the product is developed, yet it is not a standalone substance that is simple fitted together with the remaining parts. On the contrary, it is a fluid material that fuses with the leather until it creates an indistinguishable whole, becoming greater than the sum of its parts: the soul. But soul also refers to the tireless commitment and dedication of the workers that manually spread that same liquid rubber in order to make it solidify little by little until it becomes a shell. And lastly, soul is the desire to unite the various elements to create an object capable of reaching beyond the here and now in space and time, because every step that allows man to move beyond a frontier is a step towards the future.
THIMISTER by Josephus Thimister
The origins of Josephus Melchior Thimister are eclectic: he is Russian, French, Belgian, Orthodox, Catholic, Jewish… A mix that he bluntly calls “garbage”.
After passing through Karl Lagerfeld and the fashion house of Jean Patou, he worked as a decorator before being named artistic director of the very prestigious fashion house Balenciaga. During these five and half years, he gave Balenciaga a breath of fresh air, then he created his own Parisian label in 1997, under which he has since presented his haute couture and ready-to-wear collections.
The creations of Thimister possess a certain lightness and poetry which creates an elegance devoid of any vanity. Thimister seems to rejuvenate the traditions of haute couture, notably by using unconventional materials

AILERON BLACK + WHITE
Richard Mortimer & Princess Julia
Friday 4th November was the Official London Launch party for Melissa X Gareth Pugh Collaboration. Two styles of footwear, the ultra girl, which is a classic peep toe flat emblazoned with Gareth’s signature star print and the Aileron which is an original design by Pugh, taking the gladiator sandal to the next century, as only he can.
With Pony Step founder and DJ Richard Mortimer behind the decks with Princess Julia, the tracks kept coming as fast as the champagne and beer was being consumed. With many friends of Layers in attendance as well as press, and many creatives such as Dr.Noki, Judy Blame, Gary Card and of course Gareth Pugh, it was surely an evening to remember by all who attended. Extended thanks goes out to the Melissa, HPR London and of course, the Layers staff.
We shall be releasing more images from the event later this week.
Both styles are exclusively available at LAYERS, and in 3 colour ways, we are sure there is one for you.
